That's PRD takes a look at the best live performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:

Fri, Jul 13: Lingnan Night Talk @ T:union

Great Northern record label Ruby Eyes Records brings three of its most talented new bands to the Southeast this weekend for a showcase of indie rock. Although all three acts are keen proponents of the importance of melody, each band inhabits not so subtle differences in approach to their music and their art. The older and more experienced U.TA team up with the dreamy Schoolgirl Bye Bye, whilst Gatsby in a Daze represent a brighter sense of jangle rock.

Fri Jul 13, 8.30pm; RMB80 student ticket, RMB100 presale, RMB120 at the door. T:union. See event listingTickets

Fri, Jul 13: Bang Gang @ Mao Livehouse

Icelandic pop group Bang Gang’s musical output largely comes from the mind of songwriter Bardi Johannsson. Well known for their spectral, cinematic and often beautifully woven pop music, Bang Gang have toured the world, taking in appearances at SXSW, Iceland Airwaves and, appropriately, Cannes Film Festival. While their last full album release came in 2015, catch up with Bang Gang at Mao Livehouse this weekend and experience their expansive back catalogue, which stretches back to 1998.

Fri Jul 13, 8pm; RMB380 presale, RMB480 at the door, RMB680 VIP presale. Mao LivehouseSee event listing. Tickets

Fri, Jul 13:  Benoit Stasiaczyk Group & Tsai Wenhui @ Zhile Art Space

Enjoy an evening of instrumental jazz via Taiwanese singer Cai Wenhui, pianist Deng Yameng and multi-instrumentalist Benoit Stasiaczyk. Interestingly, the latter two are esteemed professors at the local Xinghai Conservatory of Music, while Cai Wenhui is also a traveling educator in jazz music. This group of musicians represents a mixed bag of influences, so drop into Zhile Art Space on Friday for an evening of surprises.

Fri Jul 13, 8pm; RMB150 presale, RMB230 at the door. Zhile Art SpaceSee event listing. Tickets

Sat, Jul 14: Black Coffee/Nouvelle @ T:union

A highly anticipated gig amongst music circles, Hong Kong band Black Coffee arrive on the mainland for a pair of gigs in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The March release of their debut album, Hazy Days, turned heads and was praised for the band’s uncompromising take on the Brit rock genre, the album even included a track called 'Madchester.' For fans of Oasis and Blur, don’t miss out on the opportunity to see this fantastic young act.

Sat Jul 14, 8.30pm; RMB70 presale, RMB100 at the door. T:unionSee event listing. Tickets.

Since then, they have released records by some of China’s best and most interesting electronic leaning acts, such as Duck Fight Goose, one of whose members, Han Han, will appear as his alter ego Gooooose this weekend. Also keep an eye out for Shanghai experimental electronic act 33EMYBW, RMBit and others.
