That's PRD takes a look at the best live performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Fri, Jun 8: Dirty Fingers @ SD Livehouse
As part of a fundraising effort for their proposed world tour, Dirty Fingers is again bringing raucous energy and sweaty intensity to Guangzhou, this time joined by Kunming Plastic. Both bands fall within the realm of punk, with Dirty Fingers offering bouncier tones of ska while Kunming Plastic play a colder and more refined version of proto punk.
Jun 8, 9pm; RMB100 presale, RMB120 at the door. SD Livehouse. Tickets.
Fri, Jun 8: Childs @ Mao Livehouse
While straddling a number of different genres, Childs’ music resonates with a soft, dreamy approach in what fans call their ‘future nursery rhymes.’ In the nine years or so between their debut album and its follow-up, the band's lineup has seen new members join and one veteran depart. However, that hasn't held the Mexican group back from gaining plenty of fans in China since their first performance here in 2012.
Jun 8, 8.30pm; RMB120 presale, RMB160 at the door. Mao Livehouse. Tickets.
Sat, Jun 9: Indigo Children @ T:union
Not your typical rap group, Indigo Children have separated themselves from the Middle Kingdom's pack of trap enthusiasts by combining emo pop with more sentimental vocals and lyrics, creating a sound unlike any other here. Catch them as they're joined by Guangzhou native Big Soul Ann and Beijinger SOULHAN – it's looking like a great night of hip hop at the typically rock-oriented T:union.
Jun 9, 8.30 pm; RMB120 presale, RMB150 at the door. T:union. Tickets.
Sun, Jun 10: Fourpens @ T:union
For a dreamy change of pace, make your way to T:union this Sunday to catch Taiwanese indie folk act Fourpens. They recently performed alongside notable acts The 尺口MP and Atta Girl, both of which Fourpens has clearly taken inspiration from. Musically, the group combines the radiant warmth and comfort of Atta Girl’s indie pop offerings with the ‘sounds of the sea’ a la The 尺口MP.
Jun 10, 8.30pm; RMB120 presale, RMB150 at the door. T:union. Tickets.
