While details are scarce, we can report that a 28-year-old man stabbed a woman to death on Sunday, May 20, in Guangzhou.

According to an announcement from the Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, the grisly incident happened on Shatai Beilu and Yuangang Lu in Baiyun District at 4pm when the man, surnamed Lai, attacked a 49-year-old woman with a knife.

Officials say that police and medical staff were quickly deployed to deal with the situation but paramedics were unable to save the grievously wounded woman.

In video footage making the rounds on social media, police can be seen apprehending Lai while, in the background, the victim lies motionless and bloody on the roadside.

Police in Baiyun are continuing to investigate the situation, according to the Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau.
