That's PRD takes a look at the best live music performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Sat, Mar 31: Freewave Festival @ SD Livehouse
The Foreigners will release their first studio album, (Ending of the) Start, on March 30 and then make their way to the recently reopened SD Livehouse for a night of underground rock’n roll fun the evening after. An early start for this one, as six very different bands from all over Guangzhou and Foshan share the stage for the evening. If you’re looking to enjoy an altogether musical weekend, why not hit up Huadu’s Rock & Roll Marathon on Saturday afternoon, where The Foreigners will make an appearance alongside Nouvelle, Pinboard and Mary Jane.
Sat Mar 31, 7pm; RMB50 presale, RMB70 at the door. SD Livehouse. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Mar 31: Fog in Berlin & Rubur @ T:union
Fog in Berlin, a post-punk band from Ningbo, join shoegaze favorites Rubur in T:union this weekend as part of their joint tour around Guangdong. While somewhat strange for this pair of northern bands to make it down this far south, nary a new release between them, music lovers can rejoice at the thought of seeing bands like Fog in Berlin, who recently supported Beijing krautrock favorites Backspace, and Rubur, who will provide the support for Nocturne’s upcoming Shanghai show.
Sat Mar 31, 8.30pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 at the door. T:union. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Mar 31: Paellas @ 191 Space
Brought to you by Shanghai-based dreampop, shoegaze and mellow vibes event organizer Luuv Label, Saturday night sees Japanese indietronica band Paellas take in Guangzhou as part of their four-date China tour. For jangly guitars, offbeat electronics and romantic vibes, as well as plenty of new music from their recent album release, D.R.E.A.M, head down to 191 Space this weekend.
Sat Mar 31, 8pm; RMB110 presale, RMB 130 at the door. 191 Space. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun, Apr 1: Heart Noise @ Mao Livehouse
Another fantastic showcase of indie bands from around Guangdong put on by none other than Mao Livehouse. This is becoming quite a regular thing and it's fantastic for musicians and music-lovers alike. This time the focus turns to metal and rock’n roll bands, with punk rockers Shameless and metal act PM730, amongst others, taking to the stage for what should be a lovely evening of debauched fun.
Sun, Apr 1; 5.30pm; RMB70 presale, RMB90 at the door. Mao Livehouse. See event listing. Tickets.
