That's PRD takes a look at the best live music performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Fri, Mar 16 : The Hormones @ T:union
The Hormones are an all-girl group from Chengdu who combine electro beats and math rock guitar rhythms to create a sound altogether unique. Their proclaimed influences are audible within the music as hints of The Foals, Le Tigre and more make themselves known. With a new album on the way, a new tour beckons for the ex-reality TV stars.
Mar 16, 8.30pm; RMB80 pre-sale, RMB100 at the door. T:union. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Mar 17: Cocoonics @ Brasston
Brasston is back with another fantastic free event this week, bringing young producer and beatmaker Cocoonics from Hong Kong for an evening of underground urban tunes. Cocoonics may still be a university student, but that hasn’t stopped her from bringing her sampling talents to hallowed musical arenas like Sonar in Hong Kong. She’s even caught the attention of Shanghai Daily Vinyl’s co-founder Endy Chen, so keep an eye out for this rising star.
Mar 17, 9pm; free. Brasston. See event listing.
Sat, Mar 17: 工工工 Gong Gong Gong @ Rozz-Tox
Originally slated to simply provide support for Sunset Rollercoaster at T:union on March 18, the guys from 工工工 added this date as a means of playing with and for a crowd of like-minded folks. By like-minded they presumably meant DIY-friendly and experimental in musical approach. Catch this gig if you enjoy psychedelic rock, mesmeric rhythms and groovy dancing by a pair of fantastically creative minds. Get a taste for their music here.
Mar 17, 8.30pm; RMB100. Rozz-Tox. See event listing.
