The Guangzhou Metro system is no stranger to bizarre incidents. There was the man who pulled a knife on Line 1 back in July of last year, the guy who pulled his penis out in September and now, this: a rat that recently spooked commuters at Line 3’s Shiqiao Station.

The incident happened on February 24, when a rat somehow got onto Shiqiao Station’s boarding platform. In footage captured at the scene, the animal can be seen frantically running along the platform, presumably looking for a way out.

In a Guangdong TV report on the incident, numerous metro users admitted they felt panicked by the sight of a rat in the metro station. Others blamed the allowance of food on the subway for the rodent’s appearance.

According to Guangzhou Metro Corporation, the rat in the video has been “eliminated” and the platform was sterilized. How exactly the animal entered the subway station is currently under investigation.
