Through Feb 28: Fantasy Country Exhibition
Color is masterfully used to create a fantasy world of artist Liu Tianlian’s imagination: an oval fish tank defies gravity and floats upside down above flourishing flowers; butterflies cling or carry balloons into the air. In this exotic world of flora and fauna, the rules of Mother Nature are neglected and boundares between the air, earth and ocean erased.

Mar 1: Lecture – Women in Journalism
Taking place on Thursday afternoon, this lecture and/or discussion will focus on the roles that women have played in the world of journalism in the US, be it as editors, social commentators or war correspondents like Marie Colvin. Join this intriguing dialogue, to be held at the American consulate.

Mar 2: re:plus
Relentlessly creative, Hiroaki Watanabe assimilates the sounds of break-beat, house, hip hop, jazz, ambient, acoustic, electro and more to craft a unique sound filtered by his own nostalgic sense of the past. The result is surprisngly fresh and future-forward, as his group inspires chart-topping sales for their three albums. Witness this rare wonder while you can.

Mar 2: Light Concert at Mall of the World
On the evening of the Lantern Festival this Friday, come to the Mall of the World for a delightful visual 'concert' made possibly by the gorgeous effects of various light installments. The show, centered around an eye-catching view of the Canton Tower, will be put on every half hour.

Mar 3: The Bad Astronauts Present The Universe Is Flat
Written and recorded in Guangzhou, The Universe Is Flat, a debut album by The Bad Astronauts, boasts a funky sound with hard edge and a psychedelic soul. Hear it performed live at 191 Space this Saturday, followed by a hip-hop jam session by a guest rapper. Ticket price includes a USB copy of the album.

Mar 3: Pia Fraus
Formed in 1998, Estonian outfit Pia Fraus are acclaimed for their mix of dream pop, subtle shoegaze and beautiful electronica, all topped off with shimmering, layered vocals. Catch their live performance at T:union this Saturday night.

Mar 3-4: Xuanzang’s Journey to the West
Based on the ancient tale of Xuanzang – a Chinese Buddhist monk, scholar and translator who made an epic pilgrimage to India in the 6th century – this musical features a wide range of music played with various instruments, including the erhu, xiao, gong and drums.

Mar 4: The Canton Temple Fair
This year’s Canton Temple Fair is bound to be carnivalesque, comprising as it does a cultural parade and art shows. Local comedians and artists will converge with their Hong Kong and Macau counterparts, while Cantonese operas and athletic stage performances abound, among other offerings.

Until Mar 11: Yuexiu Park Lantern Fair
Come see the lantern show at Yuexiu Park before it ends on March 11. One of the more notable festivities in Guangzhou, this lantern fair is considered a must-attend event, especially with the traditional Lantern Festival coming up this Friday.
