If you frequently find yourself asking ‘where on God’s green earth is my bus card,’ then you are in luck: Guangzhou Yangchengtong Limited – the group behind our city’s beloved metro card – is issuing a ‘smart ring’ for public buses.
Much like the ring carried by the brave Mr. Baggins to the fires of Mount Doom, the Yangchengtong band possesses great power. Unlike the aforementioned ring, this accessory allows you to ride public buses in Guangzhou by simply tapping your hand against the installed scanners.
According to a recent GRT Radio report, the ring will boast “a simple low-profile design” and will be “neither bulky nor ugly.”
Yangchengtong announced the ring concept at their 2017 developers meeting, although it’s presently unclear when the finger hardware will be released to the public.
If a Yangchengtong ring isn’t really your style, consider this: city buses in Guangzhou will have QR codes by June of this year, so commuters can pay their fare with a mobile device.
