WATCH: Well-Known Restaurant Catches Fire in Guangzhou

The Guangzhou Daily reports that, towards the tail-end of the lunch time rush, a sudden kitchen fire sent dramatic plumes of thick black smoke pouring from the windows of a restaurant in Guangzhou's Liwan District on Friday. No serious injuries have been reported.

The fire seems to have started in the third floor kitchen of the well-known Tanghe restaurant at the eerily ominous address of 666 Longjin Dong Lu. Six fire trucks and an ambulance rushed to the scene, where first responders were able to quickly extinguish the blaze in roughly half an hour.

Transport police sealed access to the street, though traffic has since resumed.

The conflagration comes hot on the heels of an aggressive fire safety crackdown by authorities in Tianhe District, which has seen many beloved bars and restaurants forced to shutter their upstairs seating areas for (an alleged) lack of adequate emergency escape routes.
