Yesterday, November 7, saw an additional 28 Guangzhou Metro stations implement advanced security checks, including all of the APM Line.
Here is a list of all the stations that saw a security upgrade yesterday: Shabei, Hesha, Ruyifang, Chebei, Huangcun, Linhexi, Kecun, Yuangang, Banqiao, Martyrs Park, Yangji, Tianhe Sports Center, Jiangnanxi, Second Workers’ Cultural Palace, Hengsha, Zhongshanba Lu, Xichang, Xunfenggang and the Zoo, as well as the entire APM Line.
Much the same as at airport security, both commuters and their baggage will now be required to undergo an X-ray scan to enter Guangzhou Metro stations. The addition of X-ray machines sees Guangzhou Metro security reach the level of other major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Shenzhen.
The new tech and additional manpower is intended to prevent firearms, ammunition and explosives, as well as flammable, radioactive, toxic and corrosive goods, from finding their way onto Guangzhou's transit system.
