The Scandalous Scoop is a regular feature where our editors share the latest food and drink gossip making the rounds in Guangzhou.
We're digging:
Max House, a new burger shop near Beijing Lu; dressing up for fine Chinese cuisine at Song in Winter Plaza; devouring as much Brie as we want, now that the ban on soft cheese imports in China has been lifted;
Starbucks Reserve’s new(ish) coffee-meets-ice-cream (like cold brew floats and the Affogato); the fact that Go Vegan could singlehandedly ‘save’ Xingsheng Lu by opening a grab-n-go location there; new whiskey bar The Dunnage, even if it is a 30-minute cab ride away (set in a creative zone by the South China Botanical Garden);
ordering delivery via Meituan, now that we know how; and the arrival of Coca-Cola Plus made with fiber, so we can actually (sort of) convince ourselves it's good for us...
We’re done with:
the end of Guangzhou’s beloved Noodle Bar; whatever the fork McDonald’s (or should we say, 'Golden Arches') was thinking with its new French-fry-framed utensil: the Frork!
