Are you planning to wear a spooky costume to one of Guangzhou’s numerous Halloween bashes this evening? If so, we recommend taking a taxi to your destination, as Guangzhou Metro security personnel will not allow commuters wearing scary outfits to ride the subway, according to a Guangzhou Metro Company staffer.
A ban on spooky costumes on public transportation has been implemented in past years. In 2015, transport police stated: "Passengers' strange behavior may make some feel uneasy, cause onlookers to panic and could easily lead to security risks."
The warning is presumably aimed at keeping other public transport users feeling comfortable – something that is apparently difficult if there is a fake-blood-covered girl named Mary next to you.
