Attention Guangzhou metro commuters: new security measures go into effect tomorrow at six Guangzhou Metro stations and authorities are predicting longer wait times to board a train.

The new security procedures will require both passengers and their baggage to undergo an X-ray scan, much the same as airport security, and are expected to increase wait times by up to 15 minutes.

The stations that will be affected tomorrow are: Zhujiang New Town, Tianhe Coach Terminal, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Guangzhou Railway Station, Gongyuanquian and Xiajiao.

On October 15 the trial will expand to include 14 additional stations: Donghu, Wangshengwei, Kengkou, Jiaokou, Dongshankou, Guangzhou East Railway, Tiyu Xilu, Sanyuanli, Guangzhou South Railway, Xiaobei, Tuanyida Square, Haizhu Square, Airport South and Canton Tower.

By November 30, all stations will have the new security equipment implemented, according to a Guangzhou Metro press release.

This morning, from 10-11.30am, authorities operated a security check and ran a "passenger flow evacuation drill" at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station as a trial run, according to GRT Radio
