The 590.55-foot-tall chimney at Guangzhou’s former Yuancun Power Station came crashing down this past Saturday, September 23, via controlled demolition.

Located between Guangzhou Metro Line 5’s Yuancun and Keyun Lu stations, the towering chimney was the last remaining structure from the Yuancun Power Station, which finished construction in 1997 and was shuttered in June of 2009.

Transportation officials in Guangzhou notified the public last week of the controlled demolition, noting that traffic control measures would be put into place on roads surrounding the defunct power plant. Bus routes were also affected.
