QR Code Boarding Passes Launch at Guangzhou Airport

A new system has been launched at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport that allows travelers to show a QR code on their mobile phone to pass through security instead of a traditional paper boarding pass.

The scheme, which went into effect yesterday, currently applies to passengers flying with China Southern Airlines, Air China, Chongqing Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines, among others, according to Baiyun Airport’s official website

Unfortunately, for those of you that like to travel with all your worldly possessions stuffed in a suitcase (or three), the initiative only applies to those who are catching a domestic flight with carry-on luggage.

The new 'mobile phone check-in' system is intended to “provide passengers with convenient travel,” according to the airport’s website, and, in the future, the facility will continue to make use of new technologies so that travelers can “enjoy the convenience of technological innovation.”
