Three toddlers are dead and two others seriously injured in Guangdong after two horrifying and unrelated accidents last week, according to AsiaOne.

The first incident occurred on September 13 in Puning county, Jieyang city, when three small children fell into a pond while playing near the water’s edge.

Stomach-churning footage of the incident was captured by a nearby closed-circuit television camera and shows the first youngster fall into the water. Moments later, a second child lowers him or herself in, then disappears below the surface after losing his or her grip on a nearby ledge. Tragically, the third kid jumps in after seeing both playmates disappear into the water.

It’s difficult to ascertain the gender of the children in videos circulating online, although AsiaOne claims the victims were two sisters and their male cousin, all 3 or 4 years old.

The drowned children were discovered roughly 30 minutes after their deaths.

Two days later, on September 15, a brother and sister in Dongguan fell from a third-story balcony after their father left them unattended at home. According to reports, the young girl fell after slipping from a stool she had brought over in hopes of getting a look outside.

Less than two minutes later, the girl’s little brother repeated her mistake, climbing onto the stool and falling to the pavement below. Passersby attempted to catch the falling boy, although their effort ultimately failed.

Amazingly, both survived. The boy is “out of danger after being sent to the hospital,” according to AsiaOne, while his sister is battling to survive after sustaining serious head injuries.

Both incidents were entirely preventable, and parents are encouraged to supervise their children when they are playing near water or heights.
