In six year’s time, 10 additional metro lines will be running beneath the pavement of Guangzhou, according to this newly released official transportation plan. Line 18 is one of them.
Totaling 62.7 kilometers in length, Metro Line 18 will run through Tianhe, Haizhu, Panyu and Nansha districts and consist of only nine stations – eight of which will be interchanges with existing or planned lines.
Perhaps Line 18’s most exciting feature is the reduced commute time from Tianhe to Nansha, with the trip from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Wanqingsha town of Nansha District expected to take only 30 minutes, according to the Guangzhou Metro Company.

Traveling 62.7 kilometers in such a short period of time is made possible by Line 18’s “special operation modes.” Running at speeds as high as 160 kilometers per hour, the trains of the newly announced line will run two routes: one stopping at each of the nine stations and another only stopping at five “major” stops.
The nine stops of Guangzhou Metro Line 18 are: Guangzhou East Railway Station, Xiancun, Pazhou West, Shiliu Gang, Shaxi, Nancun Wanbo, Panyu Square, Hengli and Wangqingsha.
Eight-compartment trains will operate the line and be capable of carrying as many as 1,750 passengers. Currently, Line 18 is in the geographical research stage and time of completion is unknown.
