Shannon Lee, daughter of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee, posed alongside Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday, proudly holding up a shirt that sported the image of her iconic father.
The scene came from a press conference in Penang where Lee officially announced that the Malaysian state would be a shooting location for upcoming film Little Dragon, focused on her late father’s formative years.
But no film about ‘Xiaolong’ would be complete without including the Guangdong city of Foshan and, according to Lee, just such a stop is in the cards.
“We will be trying to replicate the 1950s era in Hong Kong. A portion of the film will be filmed in Penang before we head to Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia studios in Johor Baru and then to Foshan, China, to film the rest of the movie,” said Lee yesterday, according to the Malaysia Chronicle.
Jun’an, in Foshan's Shunde District, is the location of Bruce Lee’s ancestral home, built by his grandfather Lee Zhenbiao. According to most sources, he only lived in the residence for a short time.
The up-and-coming city of Foshan, located near Guangzhou in the Pearl River Delta, is also the hometown of celebrated martial artist Ip Man, who served as a mentor and trainer to Bruce Lee.
Little Dragon is expected to have a two-hour running time. It'll be directed by the award-winning Shekhar Kapur, and is slated to be released by the end of next year.
