Here's a Look at the Speakers for TEDxXiguanED (aka SEED)

This edition of TEDxXiguan is a particularly special episode focused on education. Taking place at AISG's Huangpu campus, speeches will be given by a set of incredible speakers who have a shared passion and unique wisdom in education. Workshops will also be arranged afterwards for audiences to engage directly with the speakers and facilitators. Click here to buy tickets.

Between six and eight speakers will share their knowledge and stories with an estimated audience of 500 attendees. Below, in no particular order, is a brief introduction to seven of the speakers (subject to change). 

Deng Liang

Over the years, he put his study focus on the "people" in literary classics. As a literary and educational researcher, he has been exploring how to reflect the human vitality, profoundness and richness in education.

He has worked both inside and outside the educational system. Previously, he worked successively in secondary schools, primary schools and universities as a teacher, and participated in the preparation of "national new curriculum reform teaching materials for Guangdong high school teachers." After leaving the system, he tried to explore education from the outside. In 2014, he created the 'Son of the Earth' Education Institute, committed to education research, promotion and nurturing educators.

Shane Leaning

An educator and leader specializing in the acquisition of English language. A passionate internationalist, Shane believes that developing international mindedness in young learners is the best way to prepare them for life in an increasingly globalized world. Shane has a particular interest in how learning a second language can be significantly enhanced by cultivating the mother tongue. He is currently conducting a small-scale research project with King's College London. His research explores how teachers in international schools may better support students learning English as a second language.

Shane has been a teacher since 2009 and has taught in China for the last five years. He is currently working in the British School of Guangzhou, leading a team of language specialists to support young learners of English.

Mike Ludwick

An American educator, entertainer and entrepreneur who has been living in China since 2007. He was raised in a family of drama educators and began his involvement with international drama education in 1998 as the Middle School drama teacher at the American School of Warsaw, Poland. During that time, he also began working with the non-profit organization ISTA (International Schools Theatre Association). 

Mike's personal philosophy and educational practice were heavily influenced by ISTA and their focus on ensemble, creative devising, play and drama as a tool for personal growth and exploration. For the past three years, Mike and Near West, a company he founded, have been offering international drama summer camp experiences in Guangzhou. 

Shen Chenchen

Chenchen works at Japan's National Museum of Emerging Science (Miraikan) as a science communicator to engage the public on environmental issues and sustainability. She deeply believes that her work, and activities she helps to design, can form a strong connection between the public and scientists. In 2016, Chenchen was nominated as MIDORI Science Communicator by the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan. 

Chenchen will come all the way from Tokyo to present at Tedx SEED in Guangzhou.

Wang Zhuli

Deputy Director of the Modern Education Technology Institute of Sun Yat-Sen University, Wang Zhuli has been committed to education technology and teaching methods since 2005. He also developed a learning theory called New Constructivism.

A decade ago, Professor Wang started writing blogs about education technology that now have more than 1.3 million views. He published his monograph Fragmentation and New Construction: Reshaping Education Based on Internet Thinking in 2015.

Wang Wen

Educator, entrepreneur and national secondary psychological counselor, Wang Wen single-handedly founded the 'orange mother positive discipline.' She set up parenting classes in April 2016 and has held nearly 100 childcare seminars.

Understanding the children, the parents and having knowledge of psychology and positive discipline, Wang and her educational philosophy have been brought into enterprises, schools, kindergartens and communities. 

Zhou Jian

Previously using the name Cairangduoji, Zhou is the founder of Beijing Ganen Philanthropic Foundation and also one of the founders of ‘One School One Dream.’ Over the past 25 years, he has traveled to more than 160 poor counties across the country and, with this experience, he knows what rural children really need. He is, at the same time, a columnist on public policy and public commentary. With more than 10 years of public welfare projects and corporate social responsibility planning and management experience, Zhou Jian has become a senior practitioner in the charity sector, as well as an active advocate of the charity concept.
