With Typhoon Roke firmly in the rearview mirror, the Guangzhou Meteorological Bureau is now warning of scorching temperatures this week and cautioning Guangzhouers to take precautions to mitigate the risk of heatstroke, according to a post on the bureau’s official Weibo account.
While hot weather may not seem like news to long-term city residents (because, you know, Canton’s summer is essentially one giant, unrelenting heatwave), it is worth noting that temperature predictions this week have triggered a ‘yellow’ heatwave warning.
If current forecasts are to be believed, the mercury will not drop below 27 degrees Celsius over the next seven days and highs will range between 33-36 degrees.
If that sounds too hot to bear, we regret to inform you that ‘Real Feel’ temperature predictions are far higher, with most of the next week expected to ‘feel’ like temperatures are in the 40s, not low- to mid-30s. Today at 2.30pm, for example, the Real Feel temperature in Guangzhou was 47 degrees Celsius according to AccuWeather, startlingly higher than the actual temperature of 33 degrees.
