Temperatures are sweltering in Guangzhou these days and a refreshing escape is in order. Head to any of these pools to forget about the heat for awhile.


1. Conrad Guangzhou (indoor)

Located on the hotel’s sixth floor, the heated indoor 25-meter swimming pool is open from 6am till 11pm, alongside two outdoor Jacuzzis. We can say from experience that this spot is a great place to kick back and relax after a long day at the office.

2. Dazong Haohua Swimming Pool (indoor)

This indoor pool is located in Guangzhou’s CBD and is quite affordable. Just a heads-up, it can get pretty busy so temper expectations if you plan on visiting during the weekend.

Open: 10am-10pm
Cost: RMB55 (adult/child pass), RMB500 (month pass), RMB4,500 (annual pass)

3. Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou (indoor)

Are you swimming or flying? It can be a little hard to tell when you’re taking a dip in the Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou indoor lap pool alongside panoramic views of the Pearl River. High in the sky, a 25-meter-long and 1.2 to 1.5-meter-deep swimming pool with underwater music and a windowed terrace overlooks the city from a horizon edge.

4. Grand Hyatt Guangzhou (indoor)

Located on the top floor of the hotel, the Grand Hyatt’s 25-meter free-form swimming pool is surrounded by large windows and enjoys stunning city views. Male and female changing rooms with lockers are available, together with a sauna, whirlpool, cold plunge pool and grooming stations. The maximum swimmer capacity is 10 people, so please call ahead to make a reservation.

Open: Daily, 7am-10pm
Cost: RMB3,888 for 15 visits within 90 days, RMB26,000 (annual membership, excluding spa)

5. Huashi Fuzhong Swimming Pool (indoor)

Not exactly your ‘chill in a cabana with a corona by the pool’ pool, Huashi Fuzhong swimming pool is a great way to fit some exercise into your hectic schedule. And with day and month passes reasonably priced, there’s plenty of incentive on getting back into the water.

Open: Daily, 6.30-10.30am, 3-9.30pm

6. Jumeirah Guangzhou (Outdoor Swimming Pool)

Jumeirah Guangzhou boasts four different types of pools. The outdoor swimming pools with private cabanas and poolside bar – an AI Fresco Dining & Bar – are surrounded by greenery. The tropical garden provides a leisure vibe for all guests. There is also a 1.1-meter-deep children’s swimming pool for the little ones to safely play in the sun.

Langham Place, Guangzhou’s 25-meter heated indoor pool invites both energetic exercise and indulgent relaxation. Guests can power through laps, enjoy a leisurely swim or take advantage of the spacious deck and bask in the sunlight as it streams through the glass roof. In addition, there is a 0.6-meter-deep children’s pool.

Open daily from 7am-10pm, Park Hyatt Guangzhou’s swimming pool is located on the hotel’s 63rd floor, along with the spa and massage pool. With wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows, a dip in the 25-meter (82-foot) infinity lap pool or heated whirlpool can feel like swimming in the sky.

The Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou offers swimmers a choice of indoor and outdoor swimming pools, as well as a steam bath, sauna, whirlpool baths, hydraulic impact massage pool and separate children’s pool. The 1,000-square-meter outdoor pool is surrounded by a 5,800-square-meter lush garden.

12. Sheraton Guangzhou Hotel (outdoor)

Sheraton Guangzhou Hotel offers a 25-meter outdoor heated swimming pool located on the ninth floor of the hotel. The swimming pool area is flooded with natural light and has an impressive city view.

Swimming lessons are available for a little over RMB400 per class.

13. Sheraton Guangzhou Panyu (indoor)

Located on the 5th floor of the hotel, the indoor swimming pool opens from 7am-10.30pm daily. Guests can exercise in the indoor heated pool while having a nice view of Panyu CBD through the panoramic windows. The sauna is also available in the changing rooms, which helps guests relax after a nice, long exercise.

Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich’s 30-meter-wide pool is pretty cool, what with it’s underwater music system, a constant 28-degree Celsius water temperature and Jacuzzi. Located in the hotel’s Sofitel fitness facility, guests here can also use gym equipment and join in daily wellness activities.

17. Xijiao Swimming Pool (indoor and outdoor)

Can’t justify making the trip to Sanya for some sand and water time? Never fear, Guangzhou’s Xijiao Swimming Pool, better known around town as ‘the beach pool,’ offers you a chance to kick back on one of their numerous patio chairs on an artificial beach. It’s one of our favorite spots in the city to crush a couple of whobbly-pops (outside food and drink are allowed in) while catching a sunburn – you know, just like you would at a normal beach.

In addition to the artificial beach, guests to the facility can enjoy a fitness pool, competition pool and newly opened indoor swimming area (which allegedly doubles as a scuba training/mermaid encounter pool).

18. Senyuanju Restaurant and Pool (outdoor)

Senyuanju is a hidden jewel located in the Baiyun town of Dayuan. This clear, blue pool is attached to a restaurant and represents the best of the Chinese countryside. Surrounded on three sides by mountains used as vegetable gardens, this pool is a must-visit spot this summer. As a bonus, diners at the restaurant enjoy a discounted rate to use the pool.

19. Fuguitian Restaurant and Pool (outdoor)

This small water park is located in the Maofeng Mountain area and is a great spot to escape the madness of the city for a day. With three pools, including a kiddie pool, slides and a stunning view of the mountains, you can relax and enjoy the mellow vibes. The restaurant next to the pool serves great Chinese food and diners receive a discounted rate to use the pool facilities.

Open: Daily, 9am-9.30pm
