June 20: American Jazz Duo – Melancholy Baby

Having previously performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, SF JAZZ Center, Tokyo’s TUC, Monterey Jazz Festival, Tomisato Jazz Festival and on the BBC, Melancholy Baby’s Laila and Ben are bringing their melodic grooves to Guangzhou. Don’t miss their show this week at T:union.

June 20: Idea Exchange

Odors act as powerful triggers which affect our emotions and our memory. They are used commercially by airlines, hotels and shops, among countless other businesses. Studies reveal how some odors can make newborn babies stop crying and how the smell of grapefruit makes women feel younger. This week, Idea Exchange will host a scent expert from Taiwan, who will share trade secrets from the perfume industry and how we can benefit from them. Attendees will also get a chance to sample different scents and make their own perfume.

June 20: Language Exchange at CA1

Guangzhou organic cafe CA1 cafe hosts a language exchange every Tuesday that offers attendees the chance to speak French, Spanish, English and Japanese. Occasionally, CA1 invites speakers from Thailand, Germany and Russia, among other countries.

June 22: Salsa Party

Guangzhou Salsa Cubana hosts a dance party every Thursday evening at The Westin Guangzhou. If you like to move your feet and are looking for an excuse to get out of the house on a Thursday, then head to this lively event to mingle and shuffle with Guangzhou’s dance enthusiasts.

June 24-25: Music Day 2017 

On June 24 and 25, the Shunfeng Mountain Park in Shunde will host several groups new to the French and Chinese music scene: Taiwan MC, Colours in the Street, King Krab, French 79 and Las Aves et Bon Voyage Organisation. Now in its fifth edition, the two-day music festival will also feature a flea market in the park treating visitors to all kinds of goodies. If you can’t make it to Shunde for the live festival, you can catch this mix of French and Chinese talent on pptv.com, which will be streaming the concerts live.

June 25: DLB Jazz Ensemble
