On May 19, authorities in Guangzhou busted a substantial marijuana growing operation, arresting two young men and seizing 9 kilograms of dried pot, as well as plants and cultivation equipment.
The raid was carried out in Huadu District by the Huadu Public Security Bureau’s anti-drug brigade in conjunction with Panyu Public Security Bureau’s narcotics detachment.
Now holed up in criminal detention are two suspects from Baiyun District, one surnamed Ye, 24-year-old, and the other surnamed Zhou, 23, both of whom are presumably in deep trouble – as China regularly executes drug producers.
The young men are reportedly linked to a drug network that smuggles marijuana from Canada to be sold on the mainland. The group began selling ‘special’ snacks (food products infused with THC, the drug’s principal psychoactive ingredient) online back in 2015, amassing 59 buyers spread across 16 Chinese provinces.
