Footage captured by a postal worker armed with a smartphone shows a primary school teacher in Guangdong dragging a female student by the ponytail.

Video from the incident made its way to streaming sites youku.com and v.qq.com, went viral and has elicited outrage from netizens across China.

The incident took place at Huachen Foreign Language School, located in the Pearl River Delta industrial boomtown of Dongguan. The student appears to be unwilling to return to the classroom after lunch, leading the teacher to quite literally take matters into her own hands.

The teacher can be heard saying she is the 'mother' of the student being pulled by her hair, but in fact has no known filial relation to the schoolchild.

The teacher has since been suspended by the school

The video was posted online by the same postal worker who took the video.

UPDATE (May 4, 2017 at 4.19pm CST): This article has been updated to include the fact the teacher has been suspended by the school for the incident.
