The ‘American Foodie Tour’ organized by the US Mission to China kicks off today, April 17, and will continue through May 19.
This five-week social media contest asks Chinese netizens (sorry Canadians, you’ll have to sit this one out) to upload their best photos of American regional cuisine and compete for great travel prizes, including round-trip airfare to the United States, vacation packages to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hertz rental car vouchers and other awesome travel gifts.
Participants can upload their photos to their Weibo account with the contest hashtag #行美国品美食# (#XingMeiguoPinMeishi#). Netizens can also win food-related prizes by answering travel-related trivia on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Each week will highlight a different US region, including the American West, Midwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast, and a panel of outside judges will select the best original photo of food from that region.
Not only will the weekly winner of the photo contest win travel prizes, they will also be entered for a grand prize: round-trip US plane tickets with a Disneyland vacation package that includes a four-night stay at the Disneyland Hotel and park-hopper passes!
The US Embassy in Beijing and the US Consulates in Shenyang, Guangzhou and Shanghai also plan to host food- and travel-related events at their cultural centers to give Chinese audiences a chance to learn more about the United States’ great food culture.
