Last year was a rough year for the food and beverage industry in Guangzhou. Although there were some high-profile openings in 2016 (the revival of Suns Club comes to mind), lots of truly great establishments shut their doors permanently and called it a day.
One such location was The Butcher Shop, Zhujiang’s premium outlet for delicious meats and cheeses. We were more than a little bummed to announce its closure back in December, but today we’re delighted to declare it has reopened in a new location: the ground floor of McCawley’s Irish Pub.
The new shop will be open from 10am-10pm and offer meat-crazed Guangzhouers the same high-quality selection of steaks, sausages and – of course – bacon. (Seriously, The Butcher Shop’s back bacon is like crack, full stop.)
“We’re still organizing, but we will have the same stuff as before: bacon, sausages, steaks, chops,” said McCawley’s Manager Tait Dalrymple. “We will also have free range eggs, cheeses and breads, which I’m organizing now. Hopefully we will be stocked by the end of the week.”
From where we are sitting, this new arrangement is a pretty sweet deal. Think about it, you pop by after work for a couple of pints, or frozen margaritas, or whatever it is you enjoy guzzling, and then you leave with a pound of bacon for breakfast. Hitting the deli has never been so enticing (read: boozy).
