A foam factory fire in Huadu District’s East Lake Villge caused a minor panic yesterday at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport

The fire, which was reported to authorities at 11.21am, engulfed the 800-square-meter factory and resulted in the deployment of 14 fire engines, according to Tencent News

Although Baiyun Airport was never in any danger from the fire, that didn’t stop some from snapping eerie photos of the airport with a dark plume of smoke hanging overhead. Fearing a panic, authorities released a statement to ensure the public that there was no threat to the airport:

“The fire broke out in East Lake Village… please do not panic, spread rumors or believe rumors.”

No one was injured in the blaze.
