Sticking around for the three-day holiday? Mooncakes and Netflix marathons do make a solid pair, but why not explore all the (free) festivities our city has to offer? We all know super typhoons never amount to much anyway.
If you’re not willing to venture far from home, at least make an effort to do some romantic moon gazing from your patio this weekend, ideally on Saturday morning, September 17, between the hours of 1am and 4am, when the moon will be at its brightest, according to the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory.
There will also be a number of lantern festivals on display throughout the city, as well as a cultural carnival at Baiyun Mountain, where you can explore traditional Chinese crafts under a full moon. See the complete rundown below:
Lantern and Flower Carnival, Yuntai Garden
Between September 15 and October 24, Yuntai Garden (located on the south side of Baiyun Mountain) will hold a ‘Silk Road Journey Lighting Flower Carnival,’ where visitors can experience the old Silk Road, view creative light shows and explore traditional Chinese crafts.
Until October 24, 6-10pm, RMB25. Yuntai Garden, 801 Guangyuan Zhong Lu, Baiyun District 白云区广园中路801号 (3722 9187)
Lantern Festival at Yuexiu Park
Dazzling lights, huge floats and performances will enliven Yuexiu Park this weekend in celebration of the moon festival. Stop by in the early evening or come by until midnight (the park will stay open later during the holiday) and consider taking in the sights from a plastic ‘party’ boat (available to rent in the park).
September 15-17, 6pm-midnight, free entry. Yuexiu Park, 988 Jiefang Bei Lu, Yuexiu District 越秀区解放北路988号, 越秀公园
Lantern Festival at Cultural Park
The Cultural Park will transform into an enchanted wonderland this weekend as red lanterns line each pathway in the shaded common. Take a moment to stroll in silence and experience the simple beauty of elegant lights after dusk.
