On July 1, Chimelong Group Co., southern China’s most notable theme park conglomerate, christened its newest attraction: the Chimelong Bird Park.
The new attraction is situated in the space formerly occupied by the Guangzhou Crocodile Park and offers guests the chance to view over 100 different species of birds. According to the park’s website, the park has the “most species of birds and the most close-up observation of birds in the country.”
Chimelong Bird Park also boasts a parrot-breeding program, which has allegedly raised over 500 parrots – including macaws, eclectus parrots and cacatuas. The facility also houses the world’s largest flamingo population in captivity, numbering more than 1,000.
The park’s “grand renaming ceremony” took place on July 1 and saw nearly 1,000 guests in attendance. Visitors were treated to a wetland bird show and bird experts offered an interactive ornithology class for kids.
The pelican exhibit, aptly named Pelican Bay.
The Crane Bay exhibit houses a number of rare birds, including red-crowned and black-necked cranes, large and little egrets, purple herons and flamingos.
No word yet on where the crocodiles were relocated...
Admittedly, we wouldn’t be too surprised if they ended up on a bed of ice in TaiKoo Hui’s Ole Supermarket…
