Two construction workers at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport recently found themselves a hefty sum of US currency while passing Gate A9 after work, according to the Southern Daily.
You’d think finding a bag stacked full of cash would be enough to throw anyone into a Charlie Sheen-style weekend bender, but that wasn’t the case for Peng Xiaoliang and Hu Guojun, from Hunan Province. The two men decided to turn the cash-filled bag over to airport police, who confirmed the sum was USD356,246 – or about RMB2.3 million.
“We didn’t even dream of having such a big sum of hard cash,” Peng and Hu told police.
As it turns out, the bag belonged to three Ethiopian tourists, who came scrambling into the police station just as Peng and Hu were filing their report. At the sight of their bag on the table, the three travelers allegedly threw themselves on their knees out of excitement.
Finders keepers? Not this time. “Don’t pocket the lost gold you’ve found (拾金不昧),” as the Chinese idiom goes.
