Guangzhou has christened its first ‘Wall of Kindness’ in the oh-so-far-out district of Panyu, according to our friends at GD Today. The colorful wall is 10 meters long, three meters high and sports a number of hooks for hanging up unwanted clothing and other items.
Based on a concept first pioneered last winter in Iran, the 'kindness wall' charity movement has spread around the globe, attracting thousands of participants since its Iranian debut.
No registration is required to take items from the wall, which is located at No. 2 Gongnong Lu, and the initiative aims to offer clothing to those in need. There are currently plans in place for the wall to extend to the entire length of the street and host book shelves to act as a community library, according to reports.
You may, or may not, remember a That’s PRD report from last week that covered pornographic material being left at Shenzhen’s kindness wall, rest assured Guangzhouers – it hasn't happened here yet (kids in Guangzhou are clearly more adept at hiding their stash from their girlfriends).
According to the GD Today report, another Wall of Kindness will be opening in Tianhe District in the near future.
