Smuggling guns, replica guns and even plastic BB guns into Chinese mainland is not an astute decision. While, admittedly, the author of this article doesn’t know the exact regulations concerning guns in the Middle Kingdom, it is common knowledge they aren’t allowed.

Last week, one Hong Kong student demonstrated he was unaware of these laws – or wanted to test them – when he was arrested attempting to run 16 replica guns and gun accessories across the border to Shenzhen.

According to the China News Agency (CNA), the suspect was stopped at the Huanggang border control area (pictured below) after scanners detected metal, gun-shaped objects in his luggage. When border officers asked to check the man’s bag, the suspect attempted a daring escape on foot. He was quickly apprehended in a nearby parking lot.

The guns, along with a scope, silencer and cartridge clip were (understandably) confiscated by customs officials, according to the Hong Kong Free Press. Initial reports suggest the third-year university student was being paid RMB1,000 (HKD1,217) to smuggle the weapons to the mainland.

It’s unclear what kind of punishment the suspect will face, but rest assured he won’t be getting the guns back.
