September 16-26: 11th Guangzhou Oktoberfest 

This September will see the 11th anniversary of Guangzhou Oktoberfest, courtesy of the China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel. Since 2005, it has been held in several different venues, but always with the same key features: mountains of beer and enormous buffet feasts. Keep this German tradition alive and well in South China by popping down for a groove with the live band, taking part in games and overindulging in the refreshments.

September 16: Trivia at the Tavern

Test your smarts at the Tavern trivia night, held every Wednesday. Prizes include gift vouchers for the top two teams - RMB500 for first place and RMB250 for the runner up - and a tower of Tiger for the third place team.

September 17: Merchants & Co. trivia at Hooley's

Trivia Thursdays at Hooley's

Register your team of four to five people before 8pm to enjoy some mind-bending trivia. Possible rounds include current events, history, general knowledge, geography and pop culture, among others. This week's trivia will also include a connection and photo round. 

Prizes for the top three teams and live music afterwards with The Vibe starting at 10pm.

Arrive early to guarantee you get a table.

September 18-20: Shooting with Lights

One of the UK’s leading visual theater companies, Idle Motion is adept at integrating creative stagecraft with innovative video projection to make their productions humorous and evocative. Their new work, Shooting with Light, tells the story of German war photographer Gerda Taro, who fled to Paris in 1933 as a refugee, learned photography from a fellow refugee, before traveling to Iberia to cover the Spanish Civil War.

September 18: Beer Pong Tournament

Join legendary The Brew event host Josh as he hosts an epic battle of beer pong at The Brew Panyu! The cost of tournament entry includes free beer while playing and a minimum of two games.

September 19: DJ Javi Kalero at Revolucion

Guest DJ at Revolucion Cocktail.

September 22 - October 18: The Phantom of the Opera 

Phantom of the Opera.

Based on a novel by French writer Gaston Leroux, 1986 musical The Phantom of the Opera is the work of English impresario Andrew Webber. It tells the story of a beautiful soprano who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius. Winner of the Tony Award and the Olivier Award for Best Musical, the show is estimated to have earned more than 5.6 billion dollars worldwide.

September 25: A Guadagnini Cello

Canadian cellist Arlen Hlusko studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she is principal cellist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. She has performed extensively as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician, collaborating with many orchestras, including the Calgary Philharmonic, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke and the Kitchener Waterloo Chamber Orchestra. Together with Korean pianist Jin Uk Kim, Arlen Hlusko is to perform with a two-century-old Guadagnini cello to bring its unique timbre to Guangzhou audiences.
