September 12: Dare2Wear

Wear your ugliest (and funniest) clothes at one of Guangzhou’s wackiest charity events. Charitable organization Hopeful Hearts and the Happy Monk are encouraging all of the city’s residents to put on their most ridiculous glad rags and head over to the Happy Valley Mall for free-flow beer and soft drinks. September 13: Joanna Wang

Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter Joanna Wang dropped out of high school at 16 years old. Four years later, her debut album, Start from Here, reached number one in Taiwan, earning her popularity throughout Southeast Asia – which just goes to show you don’t need to be well educated to have talent. Raised in the US, Wang was exposed to music by Danny Elfman, Paul McCartney and video game soundtracks. Her songs are in both English and Chinese.

September 15: French Blues Singer Irma

Based in France, Irma Pany is a Cameroonian singer-songwriter, whose parents are musicians themselves. Growing up performing at masses, Irma became known to the public through YouTube, where she posted cover versions of famous songs as well as her own compositions. Collaborating with French and international musicians, she posted several home-made videos of acoustic tracks. She released her first album, Letter to the Lord, in France in 2011.
