Descendants of Chinese immigrants who moved to the Malay Archipelago between the 15th and 17th centuries, the Peranakan Chinese are people of mixed Chinese and Malay heritage, also known as Baba-Nyonyas (Baba for men and Nyonya for women). This unique community are considered to form the cornerstone of Singapore’s history. This exhition consists of three sessions: The Origins of the Peranakans in Singapore (Aug 12, 3-4.30pm), Peranakan Cuisine in Singpapore (Aug 13, 2.30-3.30pm), The Brilliant Combination of Shape and Colour – Painting on Peranakan Tiles (Aug 13, 4-5pm).
