Over seven and a half million mainland Chinese netizens have reportedly signed an online petition to get Taiwanese actress Janine Chang to change her name, according to Hong Kong news site Dash.
Netizens are apparently upset because they don't recognize the final character in Chang's Chinese name: Chang Chun-ning (張鈞甯). Although ning (甯) is not a common character, however, it is a completely correct alternative character for the more common ning (寧) and retains both the same pronunciation and meaning.
Chang recently achieved nationwide fame in the People's Republic due to her role in the popular Empress of China historical drama alongside Fan Bingbing.
