Demos Chiang, the great-grandson of former Chinese president Chiang Kai-shek, created an account for himself on Sina Weibo this morning. All Chiang had to say was "morning" and his followers on the popular mainland microblog numbered near 55,000 by teatime.

CHINA CHRONICLES: 'China's Joan of Arc' Soong May-ling
As netizens got to know the progeny of Red China's one-time archenemy and politely asked when they would be so kind as to come back and retake the mainland, they couldn't help but compare him to the grandson of their beloved Chairman Mao, Mao Xinyu.
Luckily for Chiang, Mao Xinyu, now a Major General in the People's Liberation Army, is not much a looker. Although some find his chubby face endearing, Chiang was showered with accolades describing him as "handsome" and "a god." One even had the cheek to remark that "the Chiang family genes are really good."
Mao Xinyu - still got it...
Demos moved from Taipei to Canada in 1988 after the death of his grandfather Chiang Ching-kuo, who had succeeded his father as president, lifted martial law and initiated the island's transition to democracy. After studying at New York University, he has worked in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei since, founding his own design firm in 2003.
Demos, who is one-quarter Belarusian, has stayed out of politics in the Republic of China. However, he has criticized both the Kuomintang and opposition Democratic Progressive Party for using his great-grandfather as an object of worship or degradation respectively, and has called for the family legacy to be faced fairly and left to history. On the flip side, Mao Xinyu has referred to his granddaddy as a "god" and "perfect man."
Another of Chiang Kai-shek's great-grandsons, Chiang You-ching, became the center of controversy in 2013 after allegedly threatening the Taiwanese American School where he studied, calling administrators "a group of ugly, balding and used-up white people."
