Chinese scientists have discovered a new dinosaur - either that, or they just asked an American eight-year-old "What is the coolest thing in the world?"
Batman. Dinosaur. Say it with me. Chinese paleontologists have published a finding in Nature magazine about their new discovery, dubbed "Qiyi" in Chinese ("Fantastic" in English).
How did "Qiyi" become "Batman Dinosaur"? It looks like we've got Chinese state media to thank for that one (and thank them, we do). China Daily seems to have pulled the name out of thin air, citing the animal's resemblance to a bat and the fact that it's a dinosaur. It doesn't look like a man (or fight crime, for that matter) but perhaps somebody at the Daily has finally figured out what goes viral online, so they're just slapping Batman onto everything.
Batman Dino lived in the mid Jurassic period, and was capable of flying short distances between trees (when not using its grappling hook or Batmobile, of course).
It may have been a "pioneer in the evolution of flying ability," according to one of the scientists who discovered the creature's fossils. It was the dinosaur the Jurassic needed, not the one it deserved.
