A small "volcanic crater" has been discovered in the western hills of Xinjiang regional capital Urumqi. Burning away at a sizzling 792 degrees Celsius, the strange sight dubbed the 'Gateway to Hell' by some netizens is in fact caused by the combustion of an underground coal bed.

Although the schism is small in circumfrance, it is deep: it is said that no bottom is visible when one peers into the fiery abyss. Some who do so are inspired, some run away, and some go mad.
