An ambulance transporting three victims of a traffic accident to a Chongqing hospital took 12 hours to reach their destination on February 23, as motorists returning home in the post-Lunar New Year rush blocked the emergency lane on the Yaxi Highway.

Doctor Wu Jiang claims that the vehicle reached the motorway at noon, but that the journey which usually takes just one hour was not concluded until 12 midnight.

Ambulance driver Wu Jianhua reportedly used a loudspeaker to ask the motorists blocking their path to "please move to the left" multiple times - but only a select few cars complied with their request.

Police are now reportedly using CCTV footage and photographs to persecute the innumerable motorists who refused to make way for the ambulance.
