Tasteless photos of two young men posing with the sculptures at the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall have been condemned across the country.

Just days after the country’s first-ever Nanjing Massacre Memorial Day, several pictures of two young men smirking, fake-crying, kicking, and fondling the sculptures at the Memorial Hall started circulating on the web.

The microblogging site Weibo has been flooded with criticism of the visitors, with user Bu’erxu who posted the photos online even suggested a cyber-manhunt.

One netizen said in a comment that he saw these two young men while at the Memorial Hall and tried to stop them, but they didn’t listen and even went on to pat the sculptures.

A staff member there told the reporter that this kind of behavior is not unusual, saying: “People are sometimes frolicking while taking pictures, and some go across the pond and stand directly on the bases of the sculptures.

Pointing at a sculpture of an elderly refugee, he explained that "some tourists even sit on the sculpture just to take photos."
