Xi Jinping's brother apparently married to military's 'top beautiful woman'

Xi Jinping's brother (by the way, Xi Jinping has a brother) has caused a bit of a stir by writing a page-long article in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Daily (by the way, that exists) in which he reveals that he is married to none other than Zhang Lanlan, a member of the People's Liberation Army choir (by the way, the PLA has a choir) who was once voted the "military's top beautiful woman" (by the way, the PLA rates its female members by beauty.)

Love for PLA singers is strong in the Xi family. Xi Jinping is famously married to Peng Liyuan, a renowned PLA folk singer herself. Brother Xi Yuanping, however, hasn't been quite as upfront about his spousal situation.

According to the South China Morning Post, Zhang had a "mysterious disappearance" in 2008, and her whereabouts were unknown for some time.

AFP says, “Zhang was a mainstay on glitzy Chinese TV shows for years, but reportedly made no further appearances after singing in China's annual official new year gala in 2008.”

2008 happens to also be the same year that Xi and Zhang tied the knot. Since that time, she has apparently had at least one child, and has stopped singing and acting.

Rumors spread wildly after Zhang's disappearance, and now Xi the younger seeks to put them to rest. He and Zhang Lanlan are happily married, he said, and she is, "a simple and sincere woman [...] a competent [only competent?] daughter-in-law, good wife and loving mother."

We know we're late to this party, but we'll probably still be the first to say, Xi and Zhang: mazel tov!
