Robin Williams, a brilliant artist, comedian and television star, passed away today at the age of 63 from what authorities have called suicide by asphyxia, although confirmation of cause of death is pending an investigation.
His extremely successful decades-long career captivated audiences from all over the world. Whether it was cross-dressing in Mrs. Doubtfire, making wishes come true in Aladdin, imparting life lessons in Dead Poets Society or believing he could fly in Peter Pan, the four-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner of Best Supporting Actor will be remembered for making people laugh, cry and of course cringe and then laugh again. He was a driving force behind the charity Comic Relief and was awarded the Chicago Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
In China as from just about every corner of the globe, good-spirited tributes have been pouring in today in remembrance of the amount of laughter-induced stomach pains he gave to millions. Now it's our turn. To the man who believed "everything is mockable in a wonderful way", o captain my captain we thank you... for taking the piss out of China.
