PHOTOS: Repackaging used disposable chopsticks is China's latest safety scandal

A resident of Wuhan, Hebei Province, was walking home when he passed people repackaging used disposable chopsticks on the roadside by a factory washroom, where they had strewn piles of the utensils to dry directly on the sidewalk surface.

When local journalists followed up the lead, they learnt that the operation sells them onto cheap, street side eateries in the city for half the price of normal, unused disposable chopsticks: 40 pairs for RMB1.

Local authorities then acted on the information and shut down the shady chopstick enterprise, although there's no telling how many more exist in the shadows.
