If Hell has a swimming pool, it probably looks a lot like this one in Taiyuan, Shanxi province.

The northern province experienced a particularly sizzling weekend with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees, and by the looks of it half the province decided to pack into this pool in a scene likened to boiling dumplings.

With these scenes in mind, it's not entirely surprising that some Hongkongers were quaking in their flip-flops after Shenzhen newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily published a story urging more mainland residents to hop across the border to Hong Kong for "swimming pool tourism."

The article which has been dubbed the "kiss of death" for the territory's public swimming facilities, heaped prize on Hong Kong's pools, drawing attention to the fact that they are both cheaper (less than half the price) and much cleaner and better maintained that those across the Sham Chun River. One commentator asked, "If Hong Kong's pools aren't for Hong Kong people anymore, do we still have to pay taxes?"
