A domestic tour group from China's north-east sparked a massive stand-off between locals and police at Jiuzhaigou National Park in Sichuan this week after they viciously beat a local tour guide.
The tourists, who have been described as having "military backgrounds," were dissatisfied with the service they received and subsequently thrashed their guide unconscious.
After he was rushed to hospital, police arrived at the scene and attempted to cover up what had happened and to send the group on their way. Hundreds of locals blocked their path, however, and as more and more police appeared so did local residents, the crowd swelling to an estimated one thousand people.
The tourists eventually agreed to apologize to the assembled masses via megaphone, and promised to compensate their tour guide. After this sign of contrition, the crowd slowly began to dissipate.
The men were reportedly on a civilian tour and felt they weren't receiving the deferential treatment that their military backgrounds ought rightfully to afford them.
