"Could it really be that the principal and teachers are too busy to even take a photograph with the children?"
That's what one parent was wondering after her child's Wuhan school photoshopped absent staff into their graduation photo.
Class nine at Wuhan Number Six Junior High were photographed alongside several empty chairs last week, into which they later found their teachers and other school leaders photoshopped when the photograph was printed.
Students said it was funny at first because the photoshopping was so obvious, with some teachers pasted into the same photo twice and other with missing feet, but they were later unhappy as well: "We spend three wonderful years at this school with our dear teachers," said one student, "and this picture was going to be an important moment o for us."
The photographs from Wuhan have been shared rapidly online, but they are far from an anomaly. An almost identical story came this year from Lianyungang in Jiangsu as well, and last year the same occurred at a high school graduation in Hangzhou.
Those responsible in Lianyungang said that the principal sat in some for photos but then had to leave to take a phone call and never returned. They said if he weren't really busy he wouldn't have shown up at all, and they have no regrets about how they handled the situation. In Hangzhou, meanwhile, the principal said, "What's the big deal? Not showing up to graduation photos is completely normal."
Sadly, he might be right about that.
