They say the best swords have names. So how about Xi Jinping’s? No, not Red Reign or Growthkeeper — it’s Zhizunjian, or “Most Revered Blade.”
Fourth-generation swordsmiths at the historical Shenguanglong workshop in Longquan, Zhejiang have spell-forged a dazzling new blade for the country’s paramount leader. Longquan (“Dragon Spring”) was one of the much-exalted “Ten Great Swords of Ancient China,” forged, according to legend, by two celebrated masters in the eponymous town during the Spring and Autumn Period over two millennia ago. Since that time, swords from Longquan have been regarded as the finest in China.
Zhizunjian has a blade as dark as smoke, with a scabbard and hilt that glitter gold upon dark cherry wood like a night sky bejeweled with shimmering stars.
