A taxi driver plunged his car into a river in Haimen, Jiangsu, after following GPS instructions on Monday.

The cabbie, surnamed Xu, was driving a female passenger in heavy fog when he drove into the river after following instructions on his brand-new 200 yuan (US$32) satnav.

Both driver and passenger escaped unharmed through the rear door, as the back of the taxi was left above water.

Police confirmed it was faulty directions from the satnav that led to the mishap, directing the driver into the river.
