China’s National Health Commission announced on Friday that no new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 were reported across the Chinese mainland on Thursday, China Daily reports.
While testing of all arriving passengers to the PRC remains strict and comprehensive, 22 imported cases were reported on the same day.
As much of the globe continues struggling to contain the ongoing pandemic, China has successfully prevented recent outbreaks in Xinjiang and Liaoning from spreading out of control.
The Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control issued new guidelines on Thursday, which included the statement that masks were no longer required outdoors for residents of the city.
The guidelines did note that sporting events and other large venues may require masks to be worn and other entry permissions granted before arrival.

Last weekend, the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park hosted an open-air electronic music festival for thousands of partygoers, with no masks in sight and social distancing seemingly a thing of the past.
CGTN reported that the park has limited visitor capacity to 50% and visitors need to book tickets online in advance as well as undergo mandatory temperature and health QR code checks.
Wuhan was the first Chinese city to go under lockdown at the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak. The city hasn’t reported any new cases since mid-May, according to CNN.
